Effective June 24, 2022 The Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion and is returning the issue back to the people and their elected officials in each state.

New Abortion Laws in Ohio

  • Ohio’s Heartbeat bill is now in effect. The new bill states that an abortion is unable to be performed once fetal cardiac activity (heartbeat) is detected.
  1. Our services remain confidential, as pregnancy centers are not required to report information on the detection of a heartbeat.
  2.  Abortions are prohibited without determining, according to standard medical practice, whether the fetus has a detectable heartbeat.
  3. A surgical abortion in Ohio requires a 24-hour waiting period and an ultrasound.

The law comes with two exceptions:

  • If a physician finds the procedure “necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant woman or to prevent a serious risk of the substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman.”
  • A medical abortion can be performed if there is no fetal heartbeat.
The state defines conditions that pose a serious risk to a pregnant person as:
  • Pre-eclampsia
  • Inevitable abortion
  • Pre-mature rupture of the membranes

Medical vs. Elective Abortion

A medical abortion removes a non-viable pregnancy such as an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage. An elective abortion removes a viable pregnancy.
